How can i use a Raspberry Pi3 for Fldigi and WSJT-X (WSPR)

In my workplace i like to use the ELAD FDM DUO for PSK31 and WSJT-X (WSPR). For this i installed Fldigi and WSJT-X on my iMac under OS-X and Windows 10 (Parallels Desktop). Unfortunately, there is always the possibility that the CAT driver will make a mistake when using WSJT-X and the program will hang up. I guess it is a problem with the USB interface of the ELAD. So i was looking for an alternative. I have found this in a Raspberry Pi 3. It is very easy to use for radio amateurs. He works really well with the ELAD FDM DUO. The CAT driver error is now rare.


MY SETUP

Format a high speed 8GB SD card(maximum 32GB) with:https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

Download NOOBS installer https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads, extract all files and copy them to the SD card.

Put the SD card into the Raspberry Pi. Connect Keyboard, mouse, monitor, network, power supply and start the Pi.

Select german language (or your language) and install Raspbian as your operating system. Default username = pi and password = raspberry.


Check the menu, settings, Raspberry Pi configuration.For interfaces, enable VNC for access with VNC Viewer. Since 2016 REAL VNC is included in the Raspbian operating system. This makes the Pi easy to remote control. (Of course, the VNC Viewer must be installed on the client computer) The network address is displayed by clicking on the VNC icon in the Pi at the top of the status bar. Under Localization, change the language environment, time zone, keyboard and WiFi country to Germany (or your localization). (If not already done automatically)


Update Raspbian operating system.Under Accessories, start the LXTerminal and run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. Set UTC local time to UTC.


Install Fldigi:Under settings, add / remove software search for the package Fldigi and install. If you like also Flrig and Flmsg. (start the apps in the internet program group).


Install WSJT-X :
sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 862549F9
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
Add the following to the end of the sources.list file: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ki7mt/wsjtx-next/ubuntu trusty main
Ctrl-X to save and exit.
sudo apt-get update # important
sudo apt-get install wsjtx

as you like install QASMixer: sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install qasmixer


Connect ELAD and Raspberry Pi: Connect sound card and CAT from the transceiver via USB to the Raspberry Pi and select it in the settings of Fldigi and WSJT-X.
